From April, 16 till April, 20 in A.P.Chehov's House-museum in Yalta the International Scientific conference was held. This year Chekhovian readings in Yalta had a theme «World of Chechov: a Sound, an Aroma, Color». The organizers of the conference became Crimean Ministry of culture and arts, A.P.Chekhov's House-museum in Yalta and the Chekhovian commission of the Russian Academy of Science.

Within five days 43 reports were read: «Problems of perception», «Dramatic art and theatre », «Intertextual communications», « Poetics of prose », « Museums, archives ». Reports of researchers from Crimea and Ukraine (Kiev, Odessa, the Jail of the Rovno region, Sumy, Kharkov, Yalta) were submitted, from Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Great Novgorod, Tula, Kazan, Orenburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Alexandrovsk-Sakhalin), and also participants from distant foreign countries - USA (Providence), Poland (Lublin), trainees of the Russian humanitarian university from Sweden, Norway, USA, Germany and Italy. Reports of philologists (doctors, candidates of sciences, post-graduate students, teachers), theatrologists, critics, employees of Chekhovian museums from northern Sakhalin and situated near Moscow Melihovo, from the Sumy art museum and L.N.Tolstogo's museum-manor have sounded.

During conference in a museum 6 exhibitions were shown. Two of them were new, dated to opening of “Chekhovian readings”:

- « The Crimean coast is beautiful, cosy... » The exhibition of paintings (artist Valentines Bozhko, Simferopol)

- «The Uncle Vanja - 110 years ». The submitted photos, programs, posters from funds of A.P.Chehov's House-museum reflect a history of statements of the Chekhovian play in the Moscow Art theatre and in a modern world stage.

- “The History of a museum”. Photos, documents.

- «Actresses Chekhovs”. Photo-exhibition.

- “ The Garden of the Stone Flowers”. Applied works of artist P.Jakubuk.

- “Artist Levitan and Chehovs”. Reproductions of pictures.

«Chekhovian readings in Yalta »-2007 were accompanied by a number of other cultural actions:

April, 16 during solemn opening conference delivery of the literary Chekhovian premium for 2006 to new Yalta winners. This very day the Union of Ukrainian artists opened painting-exhibition «Chekhovian spring».

April, 17 in a museum the solo performance “Semen Zakharych” and the episode from “Crimes and punishments” were shown.

April, 18 the premiere of performance «Pure Monday» (under I.A.Bunin's and A.P.Chehov’s stories) After performance discussion was organized.

April, 19 – signed with excursion to Oreanda

April, 20 – excursion in Gursuf on A.P.Chehova's summer residence and O.L.Knipper. There results of conference were brought. Theme of April conference 2008 was chosen: «The Style, Ritual, a Myth ». This very day for inhabitants of Yalta in a museum performance of student's theatre of the Crimean humanitarian university “With Joke About Love” (Shakespeare’s, O.Henri’s, Chekhov’s works).

April, 21 in a museum a concert of author's songs was held.

In this year Chekhov's House celebrated the 85th anniversary of Chekhov's museum’s foundation. From the 10th to 15th of April the International Scientific conference “Chekhov’s reading in Yalta: essential questions in Chekhov’s criticism” was held. It was devoted to that significant date. Many talented scientists, teachers, theatremen and research workers from different museums met to discuss the most important problems of Chekhov’s criticism. Topical meetings, such as “Biography & Works”, “Poetics”, “Interpretation & Reception”, “History of Chekhov’s criticism” took place.

The common quantity of reports consists 35. there are represents from Ukraine (Kiev, Dniepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Sumy, Yalta), Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tver, Kursk, Novgorod, Kazan), USA, Germany & Turkey.According to the old tradition the group of foreign probationers from Moscow RFHA – students from Great Britain, Sweden & Japan – came. Three reports belonged to the workers of Chekhov’s museum.

Just to the significant date of jubilee some wonderful exhibitions were prepared – one of them tells about the theatre career of Chekhov’s “Sea-Gull”, this year the play celebrates the 110th anniversary from the first production; the second is devoted to the very Chekhov’s museum – the history & achievements of it. Another exhibition is not very big but those who knew outstanding Russian philologist, Dr. of Science A.P.Chudackov will overrate it. This exhibition is in honor to the famous member of RFAS. Original exhibitions – “The Garden of Gemstones” ( the artist P.G.Jacubuck), “The Flowers Repeat Every Spring” ( the works of Yalta artists), “Actresses Chekhovs” – have great success.

The Head of Yalta Literary Union – T.Egorova was bestowed with traditional Chekhov’s bonus. Just due to T.Egorova 3 annual collections “Our Chekhov” were published.

The guests and participants of conference were admired with marvelous concert of talented Ukrainian singer Marina Semenova & her accompanist Valentyna Trickoz, and the excursion to the picturesque dacha “Omjur” - the new-born Chekhov’s museum - added expressive brightness to the first day of “Chekhov’s reading in Yalta”.

Two dramatic performances – “Everyone Has Bees in His Bonnet” (“New dramatic theatre on Pechersk”, dir. A.Kryzjanovsky) and “ Lady with Lapdog” (theatre “Gorod” from Moscow region) – by Chekhov’s works made great impression on everyone. Besides, the guests and participants of conference got wonderful opportunity to feel the palette of Chekhov’s music due to video recording of literary-musical party in S.-Petersburg fund named by M.Shemyakin.

In the end of the conference the guests and participants saw unique art exhibition “Chekhov’s Spring” situated in the Exhibition Hall of Ukrainian Artists’ Union.

The exhibition includes works of talented sculptors A.Molokanov & Lysenko. During the conference 13 TV-programs were demonstrated and 3 radio-programs in adding. The gifts of the guests and participants of conference enriched the stores of Chekhov’s museum. And, no doubt, everyone kept the brightest impressions about “Chekhov’s reading in Yalta” – 2006.
